Willie’s Overview
Willie Johnson was born about 1880 in Monticello, Florida. Willie was an active member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church on Lake Road. In February 1961, Willie passed away at his home in Monticello, Florida and was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Nettie’s Overview
Nettie Morris Johnson was born August 1894 in Monticello, Florida to George and Amy Morris. She was a member of Union Branch A.M.E. Church on Lake Road. After her union with Willie Johnson she became a faithful member of Mt. Olive A.M.E Church until her demise. On April 15, 1973, Nettie passed away at her home in Monticello, Florida. Her Homegoing Celebration was held on Sunday, April 22, 1973 at 3:00 pm with interment following in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Willie and Nettie’s Union
Willie Johnson and Nettie Morris Johnson were married on January 21, 1917 in Monticello, Florida. Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church became the home church for the couple, where they served faithfully. Willie and Nettie lived in the house that they built on their property on Johnson Road (off Westlake Road) in Monticello. The pair can be thought of as being Entrepreneurs. Willie harvested many different crops, grew a number different fruits and raised pigs, cattle, chickens and other animals on their 80 acre farm. Nettie cooked, made quilts and clothes, and preserved fruits and vegetables. Much of the food that they produce was sold or traded with other businesses or individuals. Some was given to family members and neighbors, and the rest was use for daily living.

Three of Willie and Nettie’s children passed away at early ages. Mineola Johnson (from Willie's 1st marriage) was born on December 26, 1908, perished on March 13, 1918 and was laid to rest in Mt. Olive Cemetery on March 14, 1918. J.C. Johnson was born on August 3, 1931, perished on July 2, 1933 and was laid to rest in Mt. Olive Cemetery on July 3, 1933. Callie Johnson was born in 1928 and perished in 1940 and was laid to rest in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Willie and Nettie also raised three grandchildren from childhood to adulthood:

Sylvester Johnson
Willie and Nettie also co-reared a number of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and relatives. Their house was always filled with love ones.
Willie and Nettie was well-respected in the community and known for their kind spirits and generosity. Their doors were always open to anyone in need or for anyone that just wanted to enjoy a delicious home cooked meal.
